The bare-chested, legendary rock star Iggy Pop chooses Héloïse Werner's recording of Barbara Strozzi to open his BBC Radio 6 Sunday morning show ...

In an unexpected and delightful moment, rock legend Iggy Pop recently opened his Sunday morning show on BBC Radio 6 with a track from our latest release with Héloïse Werner, Close-Ups. His chosen piece was Barbara Strozzi’s “Che si può fare,” arranged by Richard Birchall and performed by the critically acclaimed soprano and her ensemble.

Known for his wide-ranging musical taste, the godfather of Punk Rock Iggy Pop is no stranger to mixing genres, but even we were surprised to hear the gentle strains of Strozzi’s 17th-century composition gracing his iconic playlist. We were also suprised to hear about how he first became aware of this recording - but that's another story!

Thank you, Iggy and the Producers at BBC Radio 6 for showcasing Close-Ups.

Iggy's wonderfully eclectic show is available to listen to for a limited time here

CLOSE-UPS

Heloise Werner, Colin Alexander, Julian Azkoul, Max Baillie, Kit Downes, Ruth Gibson and Marianne Schofield

Héloïse Werner’s first album, Phrases, was received ecstatically. For her second, she wanted to create a programme with a cohesive narrative arc – a journey, but one that the listener can take in their own time and their own way. For it, she has assembled a group of musicians who both share in her concept but also bring to the project their own varied musical personalities to complement Héloïse’s own distinctive voice.
