In 2018 Astor Piazzolla’s operita María de Buenos Aires will celebrate its 50th anniversary and to mark the occasion Mr McFall’s Chamber will unveil the first major recording of the work since the 1980s – released on Delphian in June 2017. For the group, it has been a long-held ambition to perform and record this now seldom-heard work and represents the culmination of twenty years’ of programming of Piazzolla’s music.
Directed from the bandoneon by Victor Villena, the performance also features tango singer Juanjo Lopez Vidal as el duende, the narrator of the colourful spoken text by Horacio Ferrer, Nicholas Mulroy as un payador and Valentina Montoya Martínez as María herself.
